This page is dedicated to the Sumatran rhino bot fly (Gyrostigma sumatrensis). The species is only known from several specimens of its larva stage collected at the end of the 19th century from Sumatran rhinos who died in German zoos. The adult fly has never been seen. The Sumatran rhino is CRITICALLY endangered and its dipteran parasite is very likely extinct.
